I’ve never felt power like this before… – Charles Xavier

At the start of the trailer we see that “Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters” is finally open and running. It then cuts to a conversation between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). In the last few trailers I’m starting to get the feeling that the PR team on this movie are trying to use Jennifer Lawrence to boost this movie’s popularity, which would be fine but it feels like they are trying to reinvent the ‘Katniss’ character through Mystique.

We then get a very interesting scene showing Apocalypse’s origin story, taking place in what looks like some sort of pyramid. I hope this scene is a lot longer in the movie and we get a detailed origin story for Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).

During that same scene Moira McTaggert (Rose Byrne) informs us that Apocalypse is accompanied by ‘The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’ who we know as; Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy) & Psylocke (Olivia Munn).

After which we see Charles (presumably captured by our villains) pleading with Magneto on a rocky landscape to not side with Apocalypse, but he responds;

Whatever you think you saw in me, I buried it with my family.

Wait what? WHAT?! Magneto had a family between this movie and ‘Days of Future Past’?

The death of Magneto’s family seems to be the catalyst for his turn to Apocalypse’s side, I can’t see Apocalypse being the cause of Magneto’s families death because why would Magneto side with the murderer of his family. We will just have to wait for the movie to find out what happens.

We then see Apocalypse using his powers to cause complete destruction while giving his ‘I’m not an evil villain but am going to kill you all because I think its right’ speech. The scene is used in the first trailer but the CGI in it looked under par but in this one it looks really good, a lot cleaner and more refined.

Hank McCoy/ Beast (Nicholas Hoult) confirms that Xavier does indeed get taken by Apocalypse when speaking to Mystique, he says;

“They took him”

Mystique obviously realises the danger that Apocalypse poses to anybody who opposes him, stating;

“If I’m going to teach your kids something, I’m going to teach them how to fight”

It then cuts to what seems like the mutants version of fight club, maybe some mutants who can’t get jobs turn to fighting for money. Especially the likes of mutants who have permanently blue skin, enter Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee). We get to see a clip of Nightcrawler using his teleportation ability in the ring against Angel, which must be pre-apocalypse recruiting him as one of his servants.

Mystique then throws herself at Nightcrawler and he teleports them out of there without seeing where to go which he supposedly can’t do. Maybe they changed his ability? Once they are out of what I presume is danger he says;

“You’re Her”

Kodi’s Nightcrawler seems to also be using the german accent, from what I hear during that line, just like Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler in X-Men 2. I knows who she is, probably from the events of ‘Days of Future Past’ where she exposed herself on TV, he may also look up to her as another blue mutant, like a mutual understanding. I don’t think they are going down the “Family relation” route like in the comics. However, speaking of family…

Quicksilver’s dad is magneto!! In ‘Days of Future Past’ there was an easter egg where Quicksilver (Evan Peters) was speaking to Magneto and he said that his mom once knew a guy who could manipulate metal… In the comics it’s widely known that Magneto had two children, twins, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Obviously 20th Century Fox can’t use Scarlet Witch because Disney own the rights to her character, but they can use their version of Quicksilver and now its finally confirmed in the movie that Magneto is Quicksilver’s dad! I would have liked for this to have been left for the movie but meh, I don’t mind. Quicksilver then explains that even though Magneto is his dad he’s not afraid of him. Also probably the best joke of the movie is in this scene, Quicksilver explaining to Mystique how he…umm…came to be?

“Him and my Mom, they…”- Quicksilver

“No, I know…” – Mystique

We also get an interesting fight scene between Storm & Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and it looks fantastic. The CGI in this movie looks great from what we have seen so far, and this scene is no exception. The pulsating beams of energy along with the great lighting caused around them really does look fantastic, it reminds me a lot of the Voldemort/ Harry Potter wand fight at the end of the last movie. Can’t wait to see this scene.

Are nuclear weapons apart of Apocalypse’s plan to destroy all non-mutant life forms and build a new mutant civilisation? But how will he shelter the mutants from his own extermination plan? We will have to wait and find out.

Another fight scene but this time its between Beast & Psylocke. First of all Beast’s CGI looks fantastic, a lot better than that of ‘First Class’. Secondly, even though this looks like a side fight taking place along side the ‘main fight’ it still looks interesting and can’t wait to see it. Also Beast throws Psylocke into a billboard like she was nothing. heh. heh. heh.

Alkali Lake, the birthplace of our favourite adamantium coated skeleton mutant…Wolverine! We get a quick shot of the Lake, as seen above, but how does this play into the story of X-Men: Apocalypse? We seen at the end of ‘Days of Future Past’ that Mystique is disguising herself as Stryker, we then get a quick glimpse of Stryker:

Is Mystique using this disguise to smuggle the other mutants into the Alkali Base to rescue a particular mutant to aid them in the fight against Apocalypse?

Photo Credit: 20th Century Fox

Or is Wolverine a part of Apocalypse’s evil scheme? Hmmmmm…

Cerebro gets destroyed. Perhaps during this scene Professor Xavier is using Cerebro to maybe find Apocalypse and his horsemen and Apocalypse fights back inflicting immense pain on Xavier, provoking Havoc (Lucas Till) to jump into action and destroy Cerebro to save Xavier. However, this level of destruction could severely damage the mansion, which may be confirmed with Quicksilver running through the burning mansion.

Are we going to see Jean Grey use her incredible powers? Could this be teasing her ‘Phoenix’ powers and a possible adaption of the ‘Phoenix & Dark Phoenix’ sagas in future movies? If they do go down that route, hopefully it’ll be better than that of X-Men: The Last Stand and their adaption of Dark Phoenix.

At the end of the Trailer it cuts to a scene that looks to be inside of Alkali Lake, and there are bodies everywhere. When Mystique states;

“You’ve been busy”

Cyclops responds with;

‘We had a little help…”

Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine! I couldn’t be happier that he isn’t sitting this one out, I did have my presumptions that he would appear in a small cameo but it looks like he will have more screen time than I thought!

With this last trailer I am now really excited for this movie, especially now my favourite X-Man is in the movie! Overall I can’t wait, the 27th couldn’t come sooner!

X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theatres May 27th 2016.
