What will you do when they catch you? What will you do if they break you? If you continue to fight, what will you become?
I am a huge Star Wars fan so knowing for the foreseeable future I will get a new movie every year has me grinning, especially when we get to go back to my favourite era, the ‘Original Trilogy’ era. Rogue one: A Star Wars story is set after Episode III Revenge of the Sith and before Episode IV A New Hope, directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla).
Our first few seconds of the trailer we are introduced to our main character, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). It seems that ever since Jennifer Lawrence’s performance in the ‘The Hunger Games’ series there has been a wanting for more female leads, which is great! If Felicity Jones performs as great as Daisy Ridley (Rey from Episode VII) then I’ll be happy!
Right away the nostalgia kicks in seeing the original rebel uniforms (with the pointy helmets), the secret rebel base from A New Hope (on Yavin IV) with X-Wings & Mon Mothma. All of which really transported you back to the time of the original trilogy.
Oh but it doesn’t stop there, oh no no no, we get a quick glimpse of the Galactic Empire fleet with STAR DESTROYERS, the construction of the original DEATH STAR and original Stormtroopers, you can’t get more nostalgia than that!
We also get a glimpse of two new types of Stormtroopers, pictured above, one being a ‘Sandtroopers’ and the other rumoured to be known as “Death Troopers”. I’m presuming that these Death Troopers are an elite squad, probably under Darth Vader’s command, and I think that these Troopers and Vader will end up hunting our main cast. Now, yes I know that these troopers aren’t in the original trilogy which might give away the fact that they do end up dying at the end of the movie…or do they? We will have to wait and find out.
Now, you’ve probably noticed there is a lack of Vader in the trailer, but there seems to be another villain in this anthology movie. If you have watched the trailer you would have seen an officer in a white uniform. The rank of the officer is known, Grand Admiral, and many have speculated that they have drawn inspiration from the now non-canon extended universe and bringing the character Grand Admiral Thrawn into canon. His character is known to be ambitious and ruthless, two traits which will make for a daunting villain.
Also who is this pictured above? The emperor must be in this scene because of the Imperial Guard, but is that a Bacta Tank? Is the emperor in the tank? Is that Vader cloaked or is that a new character? Again we will have to wait…
AT-AT’s are back! The scene was at the end of the trailer and its very reminiscent of ‘D-Day’, especially when all the rebels are running towards the AT-AT’s. The question is, does this battle scene take place before or after the rebels steal the Death Star plans? The story of stealing the Death Star plans (i.e Rogue One) has always been there since the opening lines of the original ‘Star Wars’ opening crawl;
I think its really interesting to see a Star Wars movie that isn’t reliant on a ‘Jedi’ hero, but instead a story focused around soldiers, the ground forces that usually go un-noticed in these movies. I also can’t wait to see Vader mow them down without mercy heh heh heh (rebel scum). I wonder will Boba Fett make an appearance? Please? PLEASE?!
Overall this teaser trailer has me excited for this new Star Wars story, something to hold me over until Episode VIII!
